I have blue eyes and am very sensitive to light which I think both of my children must have inherited. My son is constantly looking for a pair of glasses to wear and has even been known to wear a pair when he first wakes up in the morning because the lights are too bright. I was fortunate to review Real Kids Shades for both my son and daughter and they really enjoy putting on their sunglasses like mommy.
I never thought of sunglasses as sunblock for the eyes but Real Kids Shades makes that analogy and stress the importance of protecting our children’s eyes. I remember in Kindergarten making a telescope to watch the eclipse and all of the teachers telling us we absolutely could not look into the sun. I didn’t exactly understand back then but I’ve always remembered that lesson and take eye care seriously.
My son picked the Flex Duo shades in navy/orange and I picked out toddler shades in pink daisy for my daughter. While the sunglasses don’t have cool characters on them, my kids really enjoy them all the same. Mr. C was excited to have his own grown up pair and daddy has a similar style he wears too. They fit snugly but not enough that they are too small or uncomfortable. He was able to do somersaults and dance around while wearing these glasses outside. They did not slip down his nose or get sweaty from all the movement. As you can see he loves wearing them in the car and the tint is not too dark so he can read while traveling too.
My daughter on the other hand loved to wear the glasses at first but quickly got annoyed if she wasn’t distracted. These are her first pair of glasses so naturally it will take a while for her to get use to them. She did great going out to play the third time I made her wear her shades. Brother had his on too so that made them doable in her mind. Thankfully hers came with a strap and they are easy to slip over the head. The pink daisy design is adorable and suits her personality. I’d say for almost being two she does a great job of wearing them most of the time but like any two-year old, I have to remind her to keep them on. *Update- She now has to put them in her ‘purse’ so she can travel with them. Persistence pays off!
