Keep Your Kids Safe On The Internet! #CyberSafe

By: Amandacomment

“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”

Are your kids safe on the internet? Do you REALLY know what they are doing online? What chat groups they are in or social media forums? The new age has brought a lot of information and resources for our children but it’s also brought a plethora of new dangers and opportunities for our kids to become victims of cyberbullying. Boys & Girls Club is committed to keeping kids safe which also means online safety.

cyberbullying

During the month of June (Internet Safety month) parents can submit questions about cyberbullying, social networking, online privacy, mobile smarts and other cyber-related issues. And as a bonus, everyone who submits a question will be entered to win one of three iPad minis and $500 to your BGCA club of choice!

BGCA’s Cyber Safety Ambassadors, a panel of Boys & Girls Club teens from around the world, will answer parents’ questions from a teens’ perspective on CyberSafeFutures.org. Their answers will educate parents and other mentors to help avoid risky situations for their kids and teens online.

As a mom of three and an aunt to a 12-year-old it’s my top priority to keep up with the Joneses. My nephew has a Facebook account and I have to be aware of what I post to my wall. I have to remember that he can see pictures and words that may seem innocent to an adult but a 12-year-old looks at things with different eyes.

I’ve also heard of rating games on Instagram where a person will post a picture of a classmate and friends will rate from 1-5 based on looks. I can’t say that the ‘games’ that are being played now are new but are presented differently since our children have access to technology.

How do you help your child to be “Cyber Safe” and how can you use the resources that the Boys & Girls Clubs of America have provided?
