Fun Spider Sandwiches For Halloween Lunches!

All kids are curious and if yours are like mine their curiosity runs wild. We always encourage them to have fun and learn at the same time too. I don’t mind if my kids dig in the dirt or find bugs around the house. Since school has started and my son is in first grade, we instill the rule of ‘no video games’ during the week. He doesn’t really have time for them anyways but in reality it’s been great to watch the kids become closer and see their curiosity and imaginations run wild.

We had a lot of fun using our imaginations to come up with an idea for Nature’s Harvest® Sandwich Art Photo Contest. I was inspired by a picture I took of my son holding a spider and of course Halloween.  Did you know according to a recent nationwide survey conducted on behalf of Nature’s Harvest® bread

I can’t say I’m in that 75% because my kids eat pretty good (for the most part). But if you like sandwich art I’ve come up with a fun idea for pb&j spiders that the kids really found fun.

Big C loves bugs and especially spiders, if you can’t tell. We decided to go with something simple and I surprised him after baseball practice with my creation. His face when he saw it was priceless!

It was really fun and easy to make! Here’s what you’ll need:

• Peanut Butter
• Jelly
• Pocky (found in the international foods isle)
• Melting chocolate (I use store brand)
• Dried cherries or you could use raisins or craisins

Make sure to be creative! There’s no right or wrong way! Assembly:

• First I made oval cutouts in the bread. (I used the top of a soft package of wipes. Yay me for being inventive)
• Put peanut butter on one oval then jelly on the other. You can the smoosh him down but I was sorta going for that bohemian look.
• Melt your chocolate.
• Cut your Pocky in half then dip in melted chocolate creating legs. Put on wax paper in the freezer for a few minutes to harden.
• Glue the eight eyes onto the top of the head with the remaining melted chocolate and raisin or cherry pieces. Freeze the body for a minute or two.
• Push the legs into the body to finalize the spider. You can make him stand (carefully) or push the legs in at an angle so he can sit on a plate.
