Coconut oil, yum! I cook with regular oil and I had never heard of coconut oil until I came across Tropical Traditions. I was given the opportunity to review a quart of their coconut oil and I must admit I use it in everything I make when I’m cooking on the stove or even baking. It goes into a lot of the stuff I make, so much so that I crave it every morning. This oil is so amazing I won’t go back to the regular stuff I used before. I have used to cook chicken and eggs and the oil adds so much flavor to every bite, it’s impossible to live without.
The oil cooks the same as other oils, however when it hits a certain temperature or lower it solidifies. In the first photo of the jar it’s solidified because my house is less than 75 degrees. It’s very easy to use, just scoop it out of the jar and place it in the pot or pan or even a baking dish that you prefer to cook with. Turn the heat up and cook away. I have cooked with it every morning while making my eggs as you can see above. Each bite has a small hint of coconut flavor but nothing too overwhelming. My husband kept mentioning how good the house smelled. He asked what I was cooking with and I said it was with the new oil I received. He even mentioned that it smelled like coconut but in a good way.
I also had no problem cleaning the pan each time I used the oil which was helpful. Instead of worrying about butter greasing up your pan this coconut oil is very easy to clean off with no residue left over. I honestly would recommend every house to have a jar or two anytime they plan on cooking. The coconut oil is delicious (of course!), it’s not overwhelming in taste, it brings out the flavor in foods, and it comes off pans easily!
The coconut oil is handcrafted by family producers in the Philippines and they also make an organic variety! You can purchase a quart for $40 on their website or on Amazon. You can find more recipes using coconut oil you can visit their website.
If you aren’t sure what Coconut Oil is, check out their page: What is virgin coconut oil?
One TKDI reader will be randomly chosen to win a quart of Tropical Traditions Gold Label virgin coconut oil! Open to US residents only who are 18 or older. Ends 10/07/2013 at 11:59 pm EST.
