A lot can happen in 20 minutes. Especially when you have a toddler and newly crawling baby in your house. If you are like me, you are amazed that in a mere TWO minutes when you were trying to have a pee all by yourself, the playroom can be destroyed, the toast leftover from breakfast jammed in the fish tank, AND the baby stripped themselves naked and is dancing nude over the air conditioning vent. But enough about my morning…
As a busy parent, I am always worried if I am spending enough time and energy toward teaching my kids their alphabet, numbers, shapes, and other essentials – not only so they are school-ready, but also because I know it can be beautiful quality time spent together as well. So, when I was asked to review Teach My Toddler learning kit, I was excited to have a structured, fun way to explore academic concepts with my daughter and really leverage a dedicated 20 minutes a day to a meaningful, bonding interaction.
When I opened the box, I was impressed with the organization. Each module – shapes, letters, numbers, and colors – were in their own folder with supplies and instructions in each. There is a high-quality board book, poster, foam puzzle, and flashcards. I told my daughter we were going to “play school” and she was so excited to choose a subject from the carrying case.
I was delighted when she immediately engaged! She popped out the colored puzzle pieces while I reviewed the one page instructions/suggestions for activities. There are so many great ideas for changing up the lessons with songs, tactile play, and more. The next 20 minutes flew and I was amazed as she made progress with color recall and matching that quickly!
My daughter had such a fun time she asked to “play school” again when her dad got home and this time we tried letters. After ten days of 20 minutes “playing school”, my 21-month-old daughter who had previously known the tune to the ABC song, but could not recite it, could recite the alphabet and associate the letter shapes with their animal on the flashcard, book, and poster! The results are real.
While she took the alphabet set the most quickly, when she started showing signs of burning out and the learning requests being too easy, we switched subjects. While I have tried and written many reviews on parenting and kid-related stuff, the Teach My Toddler learning kit has amazed me most. I had no idea that if I harnessed my child’s naturally inquisitive nature and focused it on a fun learning activity, that we could see such drastic learning results so quickly. I am so proud that my toddler knows her colors, numbers (now up to 18), her alphabet, and (still working on) her shapes! It makes me feel like it is not only good quality time spent together, but Teach My Toddler is equipping her with the building blocks for a lifetime of loving to learn. I can’t recommend Teach My products enough! Now, off to order the Teach My Baby kit for my newest addition!
