As I mentioned previously, I have boys. Since I don’t have girls to compare to, I use my own experience for comparison.
A good example is High School Graduation. When I was a senior in high school, all of my friends and I talked about graduation. We couldn’t wait for it to come and to be done with high school. Some of us talked about going away to college. Others talked about staying home and getting a job. To ask my son, who is now a senior, about graduation, his answer is “I don’t know. My friends and I don’t talk about it.” I don’t understand how you can not talk about it! This is a huge day in your life! To make matters worse, he tried (notice that I said tried) to say that he wasn’t going to walk for graduation. I told him that it wasn’t for him, that it was for me to see him march across that stage and get that diploma. That he wasn’t going to deprive me of that milestone.
What do you think? Do you think that I am being selfish in making him walk during graduation? Or do you think I should just let him skip it?
I’d do the same thing — I’d make my son walk. If my son tells me he doesn’t want to, well, we won’t go there yet. I’m not going to be deprived of that milestone, LOL.
They should be proud to walk across that stage. I’m sure that any high schooler (like I did) would agree that they went through hell to get that diploma, so they should walk across that stage with pride.

I totally agree with you, which is why I am making him walk. He might not want to do it today, but I think he will regret it in the future if he doesn’t.
He needs to suck it up and walk. Is he pushing the issue of not walking? If so then maybe bribe him like I would my preschoolers. “Honey, if you walk across that stage then you may get a present”
