The hardest part of parenting….
Joy- What Nik said! And heeding your own advice. I tend to raise my voice rather than yell but it’s essentially the same thing so I try to work on that everyday. But not everyone has a Calvin who very much lives up to his comic status. So patience is also very tough.
Nik- For me, it was learning to pick my battles. I am by far a perfectionist. I may be a little controlling though. Not being able to control every aspect of my children’s lives was a hard lesson for me to learn and still learn.
Tonya- Patience! By far. Especially with homework, my twins are only 5 but sometimes they have trouble with what they are working on and I get frustrated so I have to get Daddy to help them because I don’t want to be negative in any way to them when they are working so hard.

Patience is so hard. If you have patience then you may not raise your voice. it all goes together.
Plain and simple… parenting is hard!

Back when I was teaching, the pick your own battles part really sunk in for me. Now that I have kids, that’s constantly in my head. John thinks I let them do what they want, but I see it more as letting them explore unless it’s a safety thing, or a rule in our house. Maybe this should have been my post for piece of advice!

I see myself in each of these as well. Being patient and learning to pick battles are certainly two difficult aspects of parenting. Especially when I’m around my daughters 24/7, it is important to know when to let things go.
