Summer Blog Challenge Day #49 (July 19)

By: Nik4 Comments

If you were president or prime minister for a day, what’s one law you would change?

Disclaimer:  These are the opinions of each individual and doesn’t necessarily reflect the views of the other bloggers on this sight.

Joy-I actually have a degree in Political Science and Religion and I try not to get on my soapbox because I really don’t like it when others do. That being said I would look at Child Welfare Laws closer.

Nik- I would change the welfare system.  Too many women have become baby factories so that they can keep their benefits while their babies daddy’s are helping them out, just not being reported.  Too many people have ‘learned’ how to work the system.  They stay on and on and on it forever it seems. This affects the people that truly NEED the help.  Though you see it all them time on fb, truly do a drug test to qualify for medicaid or food stamps or even child care.  Now don’t get me wrong, some people and children truly need the help.  That is fine.  Many times these are the people that are working their butts off to get OFF the system.

Erin- I avoid discussing politics and religion like the plague. However, that being said, I would change the laws on gay marriage. Here’s my point folks (you don’t have to agree, but please keep negative comments to yourself) – People are people NO MATTER WHAT their sexual preference. Let’s treat them like people. I don’t care if you agree or not with their sexual preference, you don’t have a right to treat them as less of a person. I mean, if your brother marries a girl you don’t approve of, do you have the right to treat him like less of a human being? And if you’re issue is a religious one, then leave it to your maker to judge them if you feel it is wrong! I could go on about this for hours. But, yes, I’d change Gay Marriage to be legal and I would proudly stand by any of my gay/lesbian friends and family as they committed their lives to the person they loved!!!

I had a couple of paragraphs about baby factories, esp. teen moms, but I took it out because I had written so much already.. This has been an interesting topic for discussion, with so many people being respectful of others’ opinions.

Well said… (I normally stay out of politics, too!)
