I wrote this review while participating in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of State Farm and I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
A couple of years ago when we lived in Ohio we had a community Kroc Center that was built by the Salvation Army. It was tiny with a splash park but our son, though small at the time, loved it. A little over a year ago our new town in Indiana opened their own Kroc Center which we joined as members. It’s quite a bit bigger with a fitness center but our family loves the community interaction just the same. Just like the Salvation Army, State Farm is helping local communities join together over various important causes!
I have been a State Farm customer for most of my adult life and I’ve always been happy with their service. Until recently I did not know that State Farm had a youth advisory board! The State Farm Youth Advisory Board is made up of 30 young people from the United States and Canada ages of 17-20. They help State Farm distribute funds to charitable cause throughout both countries. This year 40 causes will each receive 25K from YOUR votes in the State Farm Neighborhood Assist Program!
According to State Farm:
“The Youth Advisory Board is comprised of 30 students, ages 17-20, from across the United States and Canada who serve a two-year term. Their directive is to implement a $5 million-a-year signature service-learning initiative to address issues important to youth and communities. The Board is completely autonomous and youth-driven, and funds projects focused on issues selected by the board that impact youth. It consists of a diverse group of full-time students at high schools and universities. Each member commits about 15 hours a month to the Board and participates in three face-to-face meetings per calendar year. The Board will fund the 40 grants awarded through the State Farm Neighborhood Assist program with a portion of its $5 million funding in 2013.”
The 200 causes have until April 22 to rally votes in their community, with anyone voting allowed up to 10 votes per day. On April 29, the top 40 vote-receiving causes will be announced on the Facebook app and a $25,000 grant will be awarded to the affiliated nonprofits.
A local non-profit, Skate for Change, won a $25,000 State Farm grant in May 2012. With the grant money, Skate for Change will be able to expand their services in Nebraska.
Another winner, Paws Place, won a $25,000 State Farm grant in May 2012. With the grant money, Paws Place purchased a much needed new van to transport their dogs that needed to find new homes!
