I’m always on the lookout for recipes that everyone in my family will enjoy. When I saw this one on Tasteofhome.com it was a no brainer! Pasta, sausage and French fried onions?? Yes, please!! Since I have started making this recipe, my version has slightly changed to adapt to my family’s likes and dislikes. That being said, I think any which way you make this it will turn out just fine and be delicious!!
- 2 c penne pasta
- 1 lb smoked sausage (we prefer the skinless kind), cut into ¼ inch slices
- 1 ½ c milk
- 1 15oz can cream of celery soup, undiluted (we use cream of chicken)
- 1 ½ c cheddar French fried onions, divided
- 1 c shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 c frozen peas (we leave these out, no one in my family likes peas)
- Cook pasta according to directions.
- Spray or grease a 9×13 baking dish.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- In a large skillet, brown sausage for 5 minutes over medium heat, drain. I do not do this, my kids do not like the sausage this way and will not eat it. I just slice up the sausage and throw it in the mix. It always turns out beautifully!
- In a large bowl, combine milk, soup, ½ cup onions, ½ cup cheese, peas (if you use them) and sausage.
- Drain the pasta and stir it into the mix.
- Pour into your greased baking dish, cover and bake for 25-30 minutes. It should be nice and bubbly.
- Uncover and sprinkle the remaining onions and cheese on top and bake, uncovered, for another 3-5 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
- Enjoy!!
