In today’s technology driven society, it is inevitable that our children will get plenty of screen time for play and education. There are many positives to all the games and books kids can read through computers, tablets and other devices. However, I know I want my children to have some creative time not screen time. Loom bracelet making has been popular for years and kids love making bracelets for their friends and family. Friendly Bands has many styles of looms, from basic to ultra-complicated to keep your kids busy without screen time! What I find really fun and exciting is that Friendly Bands was created in 2011 by an eight year old. Yes, you read that correctly, 8! Jessica fell in love with making the bracelets and started selling her most popular designs to aid in fundraisers in her local community.
We received the Sunshine Loom Deluxe Craft Kit and my daughter has started creating her basic loom bracelets on the round Sunshine Loom. She wants to create small through extra-large sized bracelets on the loom but has been nervous to try. The Sunshine Loom was easy for her to work with. There were clear instructions for her to create different styles, from the beginner to expert. We also had a resident expert (my niece) try out the loom as well. Coming from the expert eleven year old, she was highly impresses. She could easily create the more difficulty designs that she couldn’t on her standard loom and she loved how easy it was to size. It has been so much fun watching my daughter and her cousins create fun bands. The Sunshine Loom has been great, as she can create the multiline bracelets without a separate loom device. I love watching her creativity shine as she plans out coordinating colors and seeing the patterns she creates. We have had a few of her friends over and they chose looming jewelry over the computer or TV! That’s a win for me.
Find instructions and helpful videos of the looms in action on the Friendly Bands website and follow them out on Facebook and Twitter where they debut new designs and products! Use SUNSHINELOOM-TKDI at checkout for 10% discount code for their site. Order Sunshine Loom Craft Kits from Amazon too!

I feel the same way about the use of technology by my grandkids. They are constantly on their tablets or watching TV. When they come to my house, I make them go outside without their tablets & play! We don’t have a whole lot of days that are nice enough to play outdoors & I want them to get some fresh air and sunshine. Even if they can’t go out, I make them put their tablets down and turn off the TV and tell them to play a game or color or make something out of the Play-Doh. Anything that’s creative & not technology driven. Good for Jessica!! Kids are smart when they want to be! I always tell them there are always new ventures and more out there! A lot of inventions and what not have been discovered by accident – now get out there & discover/invent something so you can make your grandma rich 😃
