Do you remember being little and how you rode in your parent’s car? Some of my fondest memories I have are of riding in the wagon of my mom’s banana colored boat. The interior was dark green and the back folded down to make extra space. Many, many times would I ride in the ‘trunk’ and read a book or go to the drive-in and watch movies back there. Child restraints really weren’t thought of back then. Boy, oh boy, have things changed! Thankfully, RECARO has my kids in mind when they design their safety seats. Miss C is very fortunate to review the RECARO Performance SPORT Harness to Booster Car Seat on our way to school and when we run errands!
I know you’re going to ask. ‘How do you review a car seat if you haven’t gotten into an accident?’ First of all, I hope that doesn’t happen and second, I’ll be telling you what Miss C says about it and my overall impression. If you go to RECARO’s website the Performance SPORT Harness to Booster Car Seat has nine reviews all with FIVE stars with an overall rating of 4.8/5. There are two testimonials and pictures of car accidents where RECARO was used.
We drive a Ford Edge, have three kids, and one bench to put all of their safety seats. I chose the Performance SPORT because it is only 18″ wide and makes it easier to squeeze in three car seats. I have two forward facing and one rear facing child so they are very much packed like sardines. All different stages of car seat here! Sorry kids!
I thought I’d show you the real way us moms work while doing reviews…unhappy kids and all! Miss C is three and well above average for her age in size. I’ve asked her to demonstrate how to buckle her new car seat. Mind you, this is with no nap and before dinner. Lesson learned!
This ONLY took five minutes for her to do…if she hadn’t been crying and out of sorts it would have taken five seconds. Regardless, the buckles are very easy to snap together but thankfully very hard for her to take apart. Although, when we’re in the drop off line at school it would be very helpful if she knew how! Notice the stripe on the outside of each strap? That is part of RECARO’s new HERO harness system that alerts parents that a twist could or has begun if the stripe is not visible.
Here’s what happens when daddy asks her to get in the car and take a picture. In my defense, she’s had dinner and is in that twilight state right before bed! Typical daddy’s girl. As you can see she fits wonderfully. I like the side wings since it makes it harder for her brother to pester her. And of course the safety aspect as well! The shoulder pads fit at her neck, head and shoulders for added protection and the chest clip is adjustable to fit each individual child.
I really like this car to booster seat! Miss C will be in it for a long time since the Harness Mode is: 20-65 lbs; 27-49 inches and the Booster Mode is: 30-120 lbs; 37-59 inches. Not only did I choose the car seat for the size but the number of other features I’ll list from RECARO below:

I have an above average sized 3 year old as well and so I’ve been looking into harnessed boosters for him. We have some time before having to decide but this is one we are looking at.

I like hoe easy it is for the kids to snap together to make them feel more independent but hard for them to un snap don’t want them getting out only getting in. 🙂

I remember always loved riding in the back of my dad’s truck. Specially at halloween! We would let the tailgate down and ride around the neighborhood and get loads of candy.

It’s like fate that I came across this! I have been researching booster seats for my 3 year old to replace our Britax. I have been going back and forth between this exact seat and others. The price is high but I like the fact that it converts to a regular booster so I would not have to purchase another seat again! Not to mention the safety features beat the rest hands down.

Love the design and safety features
I love recaro seats but I do wish they had higher height limits. I personally think ALL boosters should go up to the 4’9″ seatbelt minimum and wish more harness seats did as well. My six year old is almost tall enough for the seatbelt but is nowhere NEAR mature enough to sit right the enire trip. To be fair he IS autistic but is VERY high functioning. I wish more manufacturers would keep in mind special needs children that may be physically ready but not mentally ready to come out a five point harness.

I like that this car seat will last a long time through several ages. I also like that it has a twist-resistant buckle and HERO technology. I hate when the straps get twisted!

So many new Ideas since when I had a car seat in my car I like to wings also, they have some place to rest their heads when they fall asleep and do not have to lean on other siblings.

We’ve owned a total of 4 of these combination seats. Both the prosport and performance sport. I really like them a lot! I haven’t had one with the twist feature though.
