forsmallhandsI love reading to my daughter and playing with blocks. They are all educational and great for any toddler growing up in this big world. There are so many books out there but how many are truly educational and good for your little one? For Small Hands has many different toys and books for children that are excellent for their specific age. My little one is two years old and she loves her books. I chose four books from For Small Hands to read with her:

  • What We Wear
  • Hands Can
  • All By Myself
  • The Weather

What We Wear (C117) is an educational book for any child growing up to learn what others wear across the world. They even have children in Japan, America and many other countries. It was also very interesting for me to read it and look at the pictures to see what others dressed their children in. Such a culture shock! This is an excellent book to teach your child diversity and that other children can and will be different than them.

Hands Can (V74) has clear pictures of children’s hands doing multiple things such as playing in the dirt, washing them or even tying shoes and cleaning them. My daughter loved seeing others her age doing things that she loves to do so it was an amazing learning experience for her to know she’s not the only one. I also like the fact that there aren’t many words and you can explain more in depth to your child with imaginative stories of what the children in the book are doing.

All By Myself (R252) is a book that my daughter insists that I read to her every night. The child in this book does everything by himself including undressing and redressing as well as getting in the bath, getting ready for bed and also eating breakfast. The process starts in the morning and ends at night after the day’s activities are over. With words that are easy to read and a decent length, this book has probably become a favorite bed time story for my little one.

The Weather (SC382) is an interesting book that I love to flip through when I’m alone (doesn’t every mother do that?). It has transparent pages that when you flip the page it’s snowed or before you flip it the snow is about to start falling. Such an awesome way of displaying before and after effects of the weather so a child knows what happens before and after. If anyone wants an awesome book to give to a toddler as a Christmas or even birthday present, this is a good one as are the others I mentioned above.

woodenblocksBuilding blocks no matter what kind are excellent for a child’s fine motor skill development. This bucket of wooden blocks are colorful and solid. Perfect for my toddler’s little hands. She can grasp them very well and build small houses or towers out of them. With the different shapes and sizes it causes her to stack them in different ways or very carefully so they don’t fall over. Once she has them built she knocks them over and starts again. Each time she picks up a colored block I make sure to ask her what color it is. This bucket of blocks has been helpful in keeping her entertained, happy and educated!

You can purchase many different books from For Small Hands for your little one on their website at various price points. The bucket of wooden blocks are priced at $21.95.
