With a big and diverse family, Christmas shopping can get pretty complicated. My mom is on a fitness kick, working to build a healthier lifestyle. My uncle is a DIY-enthusiast, so I generally default to a home-improvement gift card (boring, right?) and his wife is a cocktail enthusiast (but how many drinking glasses and bottles of wine can you really gift someone?) My sister is a young professional with ever-evolving taste but prefers “green” save-the-Earth type stuff right now (which is a refreshing change from her designer purse stage). Don’t even get me started on my husband – so far, I have a beard comb and a new gym shirt, but am otherwise absolutely lost. I was really getting stressed about shopping until I found the perfect gift idea for everyone – and decided to put it to the test at our house first!
May I introduce SodaStream!
SodaStream is a healthy, DIY, environmentally-friendly, and cost-effective way to make delicious carbonated beverages at home. My family tried the Fizzi model and it is the sleekest, smallest SodaStream design. It comes in black or white, so it will blend in where ever you store it. Another great and unique feature is that it doesn’t require any electricity to work, so you don’t have to sacrifice a scarce kitchen plug and you can use it on the go.
It is ridiculously simple to use – the instructions were just a few images, no words or 100s of steps. The carbonation was customizable and worked flawlessly with a gentle push of the button. We chose a few sugar-free and diet flavors (Grapefruit Zero Calorie, Cranberry Raspberry Zero Calorie, and Diet Ginger Ale) because some in my family must watch their sugar intake, so these made sparkling water and colas an option for them again! However, SodaStream has over 30 flavors listed on their site!
After letting my immediate family taste-test my concoctions, it was determined that the Cranberry Raspberry with three pumps of carbonation was the favorite, but all were crisp, refreshing, and fun to make and drink.
So, why will all my hard-to-buy-for family members be receiving a SodaStream this holiday season?
My mom can easily increase her water intake and have healthy beverage choices at her fingertips – per the SodaStream site, “people with a SodaStream consume 43% more water and water-based drinks…That’s about 3 more glasses of water per day per person!”
My uncle can DIY all kinds of beverages while my aunt can act as a mixologist, with the variety of sparkling water flavors to use as a base for her cocktails!
My little sister can feel good that she can re-use the SodaStream liter bottle again and again, and not have to buy more wasteful, single-use beverage containers from the store. Save the earth, and save some money!
Finally, a SodaStream will be hanging out at our house from now on, too. My toddler loved it and my hard-to-shop-for husband already has the next flavors he wants to try picked out!

I have been wanting a SodaStream system for awhile now. I spend a lot of money on beverages every month and this would help cut that cost down drastically! Thank you for posting!

I’ve been wanting to get one of these for a while, and I’d wondered if it was cost-effective. Sounds like it is, and I hadn’t thought about how it would increase my fluid intake–that’s a big plus. Thanks!
