Hawaiian Bread Sliders

By: Amanda2 Comments

Hawaiian bread has been a long time favorite of mine. Other than eating it as an appetizer or dinner rolls I never knew any other way of serving it. Luckily there are more creative people than me cooking up goodies in their kitchen and sharing them! I found this on Beyer Beware and have used this recipe both for a fun dinner for my kiddos and yummy snack-y food at parties. Everyone seems to love it!

Hawaiian Sliders
Author: Megan
Ingredients
  • 1 12 pack of King’s Hawaiian Original Rolls
  • 1lb deli Honey ham, thin sliced or shaved
  • 1 package Swiss cheese, thin sliced
  • 1 ½ sticks butter
  • 3 TBS Dijon mustard
  • 1 ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp poppy seeds
  • 1 onion, chopped
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Grease or spray the bottom of an 8×11 or 9×13 baking dish
  3. In a small sauce pan, melt the butter and stir in the mustard, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds and onion.
  4. Simmer for several minutes
  5. While that’s simmering, cut the entire package of rolls in half, horizontally, keeping all the pieces in tact
  6. Lay the bottom half of the bread in the greased pan and spread about 1/3 of the mustard mixture over it
  7. Layer on the ham
  8. Top with cheese, I do a double layer, do what you like, there may be some left over
  9. Replace the top of the rolls
  10. Brush the rest of the mustard mixture over the top of the bread. I usually have some left over, I have found, through trial and error, that if I use it all, I drown the sandwiches and end up with a soggy mess.
  11. Cover with foil and bake for 15-20 minutes
  12. When done, separate and serve warm
Notes
Sometimes I don’t always have Dijon mustard in my fridge so I have substituted 2 TBS regular mustard and 1 TBS honey instead. You don’t have to use honey ham either, I just prefer it with the sweet bread. I also don’t add the poppy seeds because my daughter won’t eat them, she also does better when I substitute about ½ cup minced onion for the whole chopped onion. There have been a few times when someone in my family has eaten a few pieces of the Hawaiian bread before I’ve had a chance to make this for dinner. In that case, I have reduced the pan size to 8×8 and made 9 rolls instead of 12. All I did was cut the ingredients for the sauce in half and it turned out fine! It’s also easy to double for parties and get- togethers! Enjoy!!

We make these every year at Thanksgiving and we love them! But, I haven’t ever used the Hawaiian Bread before. I will definitely try it!
