Easy Valentine’s Day Craft! {I Love You Hands}

By: Amandacomment

hands

This is one of my favorite little projects to do. So simple! I have a vague recollection of doing something similar when I was a kid, and I guess it’s new and popular again thanks to celebrities who make hearts with their hands about everything! One of my daughters Girl Scout leaders did this project last Mother’s Day. I just loved it and we have since used it for birthday cards, Father’s Day and Grandparent’s Day! Just change the paper and you can do Christmas and Thanksgiving too. I used pink paper and thought it would be really cute for Valentine’s Day!

You will need:

Construction paper

Pencil

Scissors

Crayons or markers for decorating

Instructions:

  1. Take any 8×11 piece of construction paper, whatever color you like.
  2. Fold it in half so you have a card that is 8×5 ½.
  3. Lay your child’s hand on the card with their index finger and thumb touching the fold
  4. Trace their hand and close in the palm. I like to use a pencil so I can go back and erase the lines when I’m done, but it’s still super cute when you can see the outline of the fingers around the edges. The space between their thumb and index finger is what forms the heart. You may need to exaggerate the curve of the thumb to get a nice heart shape.
  5. Cut out the hand.
  6. Unfold and turn around so you see the heart shape.
  7. Write “I (heart) U” and decorate as you like.
