Beautiful Spring Hard Boiled Eggs

Easter is always so much fun! Coloring eggs is a family favorite! That being said, it’s always a big fat mess for mom (a.k.a. me) to clean up afterwards.  This year I searched for an easy and less messy way to color our eggs. I stumbled across this idea on food.com and loved the way it looked. Turns out it’s really easy and a lot less messy than traditional egg dipping.

Hard boil eggs as usual

Once they are cool enough to handle, gently crack the shell. Try not to break the membrane. (I gently tapped one end and then rolled each egg on the counter top)

In a smaller pot, place a few eggs in and cover with water.

Add 20-30 drops of food coloring (I used the liquid drops, not the gels). Gently stir.

Place pot back on stove. Bring water back to a boil.

Boil for 5-10 minutes (I found the lighter colors need to boil a few minutes longer to get more of a vibrant color).

Remove from heat.

Rinse with cool water.

Repeat as necessary for different colors.

Once they are cool enough to handle, go ahead and peel them.

Voila! Fancy hard boiled eggs!

You’ll need eggs and food dye! I used the liquid food dye not the gel. Here’s awesome neon colors on Amazon that would be fun to use.
