Reading books in our house is second nature. We don’t have a Kindle or an e-reader so we rely on good old-fashioned page turning to keep our kids entertained! I’m old school when I say I don’t desire to have an e-reader. We enjoy going to the library weekly. The kids and I could spend all day in the worlds that we discover in books.
We were fortunate to receive the book Room on the Broom to read and the kids love it. My son and I had read it over the holidays last year and it’s been in my Amazon shopping cart for a while. This story starts with a witch who quickly finds room on her broom for a cat, dog, bird, and frog despite the cats’ annoyance. The story rhymes and is so silly that my son knows a lot of the words by heart. It even has a dragon and what kids doesn’t like dragons?
We were also given the opportunity to watch the recently released movie adaption of Room on the Broom too. My son was ready to pop that dvd in as soon as he saw the package. We enjoy watching the animation of The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child so I knew this would be right up his alley. Simon Pegg (Scotty from the new Star Trek movies) narrates and I like his voice. There are some narrators I just can’t stand! The movie is very accurate to the book and it is fun to see the words you read to your kids put into animation.

In this tale of friendship and adventure, join a friendly witch and her cat as they fly happily through the sky on their broomstick—until the witch drops her hat, then her bow, then her wand! Luckily, three helpful animals—a dog, a parrot and a frog—find the missing items and all they want in return is a ride on the broomstick. But is there room on the broom for so many new friends? The kindly witch thinks there is—much to the frustration of her cat. But when disaster strikes, and the witch is about to be eaten by a fearsome dragon, she is saved by the gang of animals, all working together. The witch’s cat learns the importance of friends and family, and the witch rewards her new friends with a magnificent broom that is big enough for everyone!
