Have you ever wanted a package of cookie mix that not only tasted amazing but turned out so perfect that everyone wanted more and more? I’m prone to burning cookies and making a fool out of myself when I bake. I love to bake but not when my cookies don’t turn out the way they should. Shirley J was generous enough to provide me with their entire Cookie Mix Line. Included in the line is: Coconutty Macaroon, Soft Ginger Molasses, The New York B&W, Classic Sugar Cookie, and Oatmeal Jumbles. There were many favorites out of the bunch that I made and I think it’s safe to say my diet was out of the picture for the entire week and a half of baking cookies. Plus, I received their amazing Bourbon Vanilla which I put in one of the mixes since it called for that product.
The first set of cookies that was made was the Coconutty Macaroons. I didn’t dip them in chocolate since I didn’t have any available at the time (the cravings were too much to take time out and run to the store for some chocolate chips, sad I know).
These flavor filled cookies were like a burst of sugar and coconut all rolled into one. Despite the fact that they were sticky when making them and a little sticky to the touch afterwards, I have never loved a coconut cookie like I fell in love with these. They were soft, chewy and just the perfect kind of cookie. To be honest they didn’t really form or feel like one, they were more like jumbles of deliciousness. My husband liked them so these were on his list of must haves which is a pretty big deal.
The next batch of cookies I made (pretty much the next day since we devoured the Coconutty Macaroons in record timing) were the Soft Ginger-Molasses. Within minutes of mixing the concoction together I could smell the molasses and the ginger. Rolled them in a bowl of sugar as the package suggested and put them in the oven. Mind you I did not burn any of these cookies. They baked a minute or two less than the instructions guided and they still tasted amazing. Dripping with sweet ginger and molasses, both an even mixture of flavors. Not one over powered the other. My husband took some to work with them and he came home telling me there were orders for more of them.
I had previously reviewed their Classic Sugar Cookie Mix, but I will toss in some opinions again. It mixed and baked all the same as the last time and I even made the cookies different sizes. Sweet and succulent. I was just so excited to get the mix again to make more and boy were they delicious!
Oatmeal Jumbles. Um, yum?! My husband has placed this at the top of his list. They give you several options as to what you can mix with it which include raisins, pecans, chopped walnuts etc. I chose the option of the chocolate chips which I had picked up (after making the Macaroons, go figure!) and they cooked very well mixed together. Baked just under the time limit and they came out soft and chewy. The chocolate chips made the sugary goodness pretty obvious. I have a feeling I will be ordering a few packages of this mix to keep in the cupboard, in case my husband gets too many demands from work for these.
I’m not one for frosting cookies since I’m either too impatient to let the cookies cool off or I just am not as artistic as many people are born to be. These turned out wonderful though! On the back is a recipe for the icing and I made it. I have a feeling I put too much lemon juice in since the icing was a little too lemony for my taste. The cookie as a whole with all of the frosting on it was delicious though. For not being that great at making cookies and managing to make the icing melt too fast on them, I make pretty darn good ones! Oh, and this was another demand from my husband’s work for me to make more of them. Shirley J just makes the right mix to make a person feel perfect!
