Smoked Sausage Casserole

By: Amandacomment

I’m always on the lookout for recipes that everyone in my family will enjoy. When I saw this one on Tasteofhome.com it was a no brainer! Pasta, sausage and French fried onions?? Yes, please!! Since I have started making this recipe, my version has slightly changed to adapt to my family’s likes and dislikes. That being said, I think any which way you make this it will turn out just fine and be delicious!!

Smoked Sausage Casserole
Author: Megan
Ingredients
  • 2 c penne pasta
  • 1 lb smoked sausage (we prefer the skinless kind), cut into ¼ inch slices
  • 1 ½ c milk
  • 1 15oz can cream of celery soup, undiluted (we use cream of chicken)
  • 1 ½ c cheddar French fried onions, divided
  • 1 c shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 c frozen peas (we leave these out, no one in my family likes peas)
Instructions
  1. Cook pasta according to directions.
  2. Spray or grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  4. In a large skillet, brown sausage for 5 minutes over medium heat, drain. I do not do this, my kids do not like the sausage this way and will not eat it. I just slice up the sausage and throw it in the mix. It always turns out beautifully!
  5. In a large bowl, combine milk, soup, ½ cup onions, ½ cup cheese, peas (if you use them) and sausage.
  6. Drain the pasta and stir it into the mix.
  7. Pour into your greased baking dish, cover and bake for 25-30 minutes. It should be nice and bubbly.
  8. Uncover and sprinkle the remaining onions and cheese on top and bake, uncovered, for another 3-5 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
  9. Enjoy!!
