Chipped Beef on Toast

Today we’re kickin’ it old school with this recipe. This is one that has been passed down in my family for a few generations, probably originating sometime around the Depression era. It’s not super pretty to look at but it IS super tasty! Plus it’s extremely simple to make! My kids gobble this down within minutes and there are never any left overs!

Chipped Beef on Toast
Author: Megan
Ingredients
  • 1 6oz package of Budding Beef
  • 3 TBSP Butter or margarine
  • 1 TBSP Wostershire sauce
  • 1 TBSP all purpose flour
  • 4-6 slices of bread
Instructions
  1. Cut beef into 1/2” slices. I leave the meat in a stack and slice it up all at once and then peal it all apart.
  2. In a large skillet, melt 2 TBSP of butter on medium high heat.
  3. Throw in all the meat and toss together.
  4. Tilt one edge of the pan up so the butter slides to the side that’s down and push the meat to the side that’s up.
  5. Add in the last TBSP of butter and the worstershire sauce to the butter side, stir together.
  6. Keeping the pan tilted, stir in a little bit of the milk and sprinkle in the flour.
  7. Stir until gets thick, I use a small whisk.
  8. Once it thickens, pour in the rest of the milk and stir together quickly.
  9. Set pan down and mix in the meat until it starts to bubble.
  10. Reduce heat and continue to simmer while toasting the bread.
  11. Place the toast on a plate and scoop up some of the meat and gravy mixture and pour it over the toast.
  12. Serve while warm.
Notes
This recipe feeds my family of four perfectly! My hubby and I usually have two pieces of toast while our girls each have one. I would think this recipe would easily double for a larger meal.

The ingredients don’t list the milk. Looks good though.
