As I recently posted Hasbro is getting rid of one of their Monopoly game pieces and replacing it with a new one! Yet the company has callously forgotten the most important part of this hallowed tradition: the finger-lickin’-good popcorn bowl. Since 1935 MONOPOLY money and buttery popcorn have gone hand-in-hand around many family game tables.
JOLLY TIME Pop Corn is leading the charge to petition a reconsideration from by Hasbro, and include a popcorn game piece in the running for the newest token. The new token will not be chosen until Feb. 5 and JOLLY TIME CEO, Garry Smith believes there is still time. He has written a letter to President and CEP of Hasbro asking for reconsideration. The fifth-generation popcorn company is also collecting petition signatures through its Facebook page!
Did you sign the petition? It only takes a minute! We always had popcorn around when we played board games, in fact it was the air popped kind so we wouldn’t get our hands greasy! So what are you waiting for? Go and sign today!
I’ve included the letter JOLLY TIME CEO Garry Smith wrote to Hasbro President and CEO Brian Goldner that explains it all! Again, go vote and happy reading!
“For nearly 100 years, our brand has been synonymous with fun, and yet you have us crying into our kernels at the blatant exclusion of food from your game piece additions,” wrote Smith in his letter. “Game night without JOLLY TIME Pop Corn is criminal—and you should go directly to jail for this callous mistake. Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200.”
The letter goes on to plead a strong case for a popcorn game piece and points to the issues associated with the currently proposed new game pieces, such as materialism (ring), inability to love (robot), devastating allergies (cat), with other negative associations like war (helicopter) and on-stage musician tantrums (guitar).
In summation of his case for a popcorn game piece, Smith begs for Hasbro to make amends while there’s still time. The company is expected to tally consumer votes and make decisions on the game piece retirement and addition on Feb. 5.
“Say it’s not too late,” Smith pleads. “MONOPOLY is fun. Popcorn is fun. The two must join forces for future generations of game night players.”
