Halloween Poke Cake {Recipe}

halloween cake

I love Halloween but you can make this cake for just about any holiday, just change the food coloring and decorations. It’s adapted from All Recipes and it’s really really easy!

Halloween Poke Cake {Recipe}

Prep time: 4 hours
Cook time: 45 mins
Total time: 4 hours 45 mins
Serves: 10-12
Ingredients
  • 1 – 18 oz package cake mix (white, yellow, marble)
  • 1- 3 oz package orange gelatin
  • 1 – cup boiling water
  • 1- cup cold water
  • 1-container Cool Whip
  • 1-Jar of Frosting (white)
  • Cocoa or chocolate milk powder
  • 12 to 15 pieces of pumpkin mix or or candy corns
  • Nutter Butters or Vienna Cookies
  • Halloween Sprinkles
  • Gel
Instructions
  1. Prepare and bake cake according to package directions using a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Cool in the pan or on a wire rack for about an hour or two. Dissolve gelatin with 1 cup boiling water then add 1 cup cold water. With a meat fork, wooden skewer, or knife poke holes in cake about 1-2 in. apart. Pour gelatin over cake. Refrigerate for 3-4 hours.
  2. Frost the cake with Cool Whip. I mixed in food coloring to make it more festive. Frost the Vienna Cookies to look like graves with the frosting. Again I used food coloring but if you have no food coloring keep them white and they can be marble tombstones! I only frosted half of the cookie then stuck the other half in the cake. Decorate the cake with the sprinkles and pumpkins and use some cocoa to imitate dirt. Very easy and kid friendly!
