October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month

By: Nikcomment

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Some facts about breast cancer according to Breast Cancer.org:

*1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime

*For women in the United States, breast cancer death rates are higher than any other types of cancer, besides lung cancer.

*Less than 15% of women who get breast cancer have a family member who has been diagnosed with it.

*As of 2011, there were more than 2.6 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S.

*About 5-10% of breast cancers are thought to be caused by inherited gene mutations (abnormal changes passed through families).

There are many walks in my area to promote awareness.  If you go to Making Strides you can find walks in your local area.  You can also help give free mammograms by going to The Breast Cancer Site  and clicking on the link.
