Winter break. It comes every year and usually by the end of it I’m ready to send the kids back to school! Not this year. We’ve had so much fun spending time playing with their gifts and taking the oldest to basketball games. We deliberately spend this time taking it easy since he’s had a concussion and needed time to heal. We did make it to Newport Aquarium to explore the different types of aquatic life and had a wonderful time!
Newport Aquarium in KY was so much fun! My son recently got a fish tank for getting good grades and has an expanding interest in marine life. It probably started with his love of River Monsters on Netflix. Although we’re pretty sure he’s going to be an Entomologist, we have a guess that a career in aquatics may be a close second.
When you have a concussion sometimes light will bother you and cause a headache (which was the case for Big C) the aquarium wasn’t too bright and had a lot of exhibits that were dark so it was the perfect medicine for him. It’s tough being 9 and missing out on the fun!
We enjoyed a nice Friday at the aquarium exploring different exhibits, from Cichlids to Stingrays, there was something for everyone to see and love. Favorites? Miss C loved petting the Stingrays and sharks, Little C’s favorite was the Japanese Spider crab, and Big C was absolutely enamored with the shark bridge and he really wanted to go to the Frog Bog but that wasn’t open.
I loved watching the kids explore and I always find it fun trying to find all of the creatures that are hiding.
If you’re around our neck of the woods, I recommend taking a trip to Newport Aquarium. There are tons of exhibits everyone will love plus we’re going back for a Family Overnight Adventure for my son’s 10th birthday! How cool is that?
Tell us your favorite Newport Aquarium exhibit or if you’re planning a trip soon!

Aquariums make me miss my scuba diving days; especially when I lived in Florida

Wow, what a great place, we will stop by there on our next trip to your area. I loved the shark. I hope he is better now, poor thing, I know he probably didn’t feel like doing much with a concussion.

I’m hoping to take my 9 and 7 year old great grandchildren to the Aquarium at the inner Harbor in Baltimore soon!

We love our local aquarium. They do this event where kids can sleepover in the shark exhibit. I can’t wait until my daughter is old enough so that I can go with her!

This looks like an amazing adventure with the children and what a great way to spend time with family and learn about so many different types of fish. I love who ever did there faces, great job.

The family overnight sounds like a lot of fun. It’s nice to find places closer to home to enjoy so you’re not stressed about traveling!
