I have had trouble with a dried out turkey before and I really want to try brining the turkey. I cook my turkey in a turkey cooker and this year i will remember the tip on cooking it till it reaches 165 degrees and let rest until ready to serve. Thanks

It is very interesting that you would first bake at 500 degrees. Then, a lower oven just until it reaches 161 degrees. It will get to the desired temperature, 165, as it sits. Also, I only put butter in the cavity of my turkey. I think I will try adding other spices.

I have often heard that brining a turkey is a good way to keep it moist as well as flavorful, and this seems to be an easy way to do it. Might try it this year.

We have never tried to brine a turkey. We just throw it in the oven after coating it with oil and it gets crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. This sounds like it would add a little more flavor though.

I am petrified of brining a turkey. Honestly, the past few years, we’ve gone out for Thanksgiving dinner and had the family meal at a restaurant, and just done a Thanksgiving breakfast/brunch at home. It’s nice to be served, and to have less clean up, less craziness, and less stress. I don’t think we can afford to go out this year, so I’m hoping for a turkey.

Thanksgiving is a time when our family makes time to get together. We all LOVE our turkey dinner with all the trimmings. I do keep our turkey in a cooler as there is never enough room in the 2 refrigerators by the time all the food ingredients take their places on the shelves. However, we don’t need to make a fuss with fancy recipes as we enjoy our basic stuff and devour it with smiles. As for the cooler – got to keep it clean as we head to the beach for fun each day (weather permitting) while everyone is together.
