There are at least two types of vacationers. Those that want to go, go, go and see it all and those that want to relax and do nothing. You see, I love both. Many times on trips and vacations you cannot enjoy doing it all and doing nothing in the same time frame 🙂 Have you ever tried thinking of something that could fit both ends of the spectrum? I never really thought about it, until I found the answer while we were on our trip in Myrtle Beach. Take a trip on the Skywheel.
The Skywheel is a newer (2011) addition to the skyline of the Grand Strand. This fantastic ride is a 200 foot tall beauty. Driving to the Skywheel I admired the lines and simplicity, and I knew she would photograph well. There are 42 fully enclosed gondolas to enjoy the sites in. The added kicker? They are each temperature controlled, so you can enjoy the Skywheel all year long. The wheel is illuminated in the evening, also making it perfect to ride any time of the day. They offer a photo at the end of the ride to help commemorate your trip as well.
The views you get are spectacular. At 20 stories high, it’s like a Ferris wheel on steroids. The Skywheel sets just off the beach, so on your revolutions, you are out over the sand. The gondolas are all windows, so there just isn’t a bad seat or view. You can see miles up and down the strip, pick where you want to head next, find an open section of sand and feel on top of the World.
My family’s overall thoughts and feelings: Even if you are afraid of heights, still try it. You feel extremely safe in the car, as it is enclosed. Also, it doesn’t move so quickly that you rock or sway. Kids can play eye spy, adults can relax and take in the beauty of the Atlantic. The 4 revolutions we went around was the perfect amount. You felt you had enough time to see every angle but not so long where kids start asking is it over yet. The Skywheel in Myrtle Beach was the perfect stop for our family who could do everything and nothing at the same time!
