Almost nine years ago, when I was pregnant with my first son, I received the book What to Expect® When You’re Expecting. Didn’t everyone? I think it’s a rule that your HAVE to go buy or be given the bible of all pregnancy books. While the baby ship has sailed, I have plenty of friends and family that will be experiencing the joys of mother and fatherhood and What to Expect® When You’re Expecting makes the perfect gift.
Including What To Expect When You’re Expecting I’ve listed a few gifts that I like to give new moms and dads that I find helpful (and still use):
Diapers – You can never go wrong by buying expecting or new parents diapers. I typically always buy size 1 since most of the time babies outgrow newborns quickly. Make sure to give them the gift receipt in case they need to exchange.
Goodnight Moon– We have read Goodnight Moon to each of our kids from the beginning and they love this story. When the kids get older we start finding the mouse on each page. It’s a tradition.
Lovie or blanket – My daughter loves her lovie she affectionately calls ‘bear’. His head rattles and he’s got a silky body. My youngest son love his blanket that is soft on one side and silky on the other. They bring comfort to the kids and they absolutely love them.
What to Expect® When You’re Expecting – Now in a brand new 5th edition with a fresh perspective, up-to-the-minute information and advice, and the same friendly, reassuring voice that has made the book a bestseller for decades. This book makes for great reading, especially at night when you can’t sleep or for reference after the baby has come. Medical coverage is updated which includes questions about the Zika virus when you’re pregnant.
In addition to bringing Dad into the book throughout, it answers every imaginable question expecting parents could ask and offers solutions for every pregnancy and postpartum symptom. I remember the editions I had so it’s nice to know they’ve updated to include the role of the father.

I used this book when my girls were little and it was an excellent resource. My daughter and I both used this with my grandson. This is definitely a great book for anyone helping to take care of a little one!
