As a nursing parent, I am always concerned that I am producing enough for my little girl. Clearly, I know by now that I have been, she is completely healthy and she isn’t without. However, there is always that lingering feeling that I could be/should be doing more. There are definitely options out there for us mamas. I am not a tea fan, so that took out some options. There are pills, mixes and treats that can help boost supply. I have tried some brand name cookies and wasn’t impressed. I’ve mixed flax in with my oatmeal. I’ve taken Fenugreek capsules. It may have helped my supply minimally, but the taste and texture was less than thrilling. I was introduced to Bessie’s Best Lactation Cookies and haven’t looked back!
It’s rare to find food/treats with all the milk boosting goodness and great tasting. I am so happy to say I have found both in Bessie’s cookies. I got to try out their famous granola and cookie bars. When my package came, I dug right in. She added a note on freshness dates and freezer options. I immediately put some in the freezer to make sure I’d have plenty. The Bessie’s team is run by all women that want to support a mama in her nursing journey.
I first tried the cookie; they are more like thick little bars. Soft, full of flavor and delicious. They taste just like chocolate chip cookies, with oatmeal. You wouldn’t know they were little super bars unless you were told. In fact, my older kids each tried one and loved them as well. The granola just looked delicious in itself. I first had some with my yogurt. The next morning, I made it my breakfast and just added milk! I love the mix Bessie’s has chosen.
I don’t know for sure how much of a boost it gave my supply because I am mostly nursing on demand at home and only pumping while I am working away from the house. The first few days after trying my Bessie’s Best goodies, I was feeling fuller! Also, remember how I froze some of my cookies? They thawed easily and tasted just as fresh as my first cookie on day one. Bessie’s Best also has seasonal pumpkin bread. I’m thinking of making a 5 hour trek to their bakery in PA for taste testing 😉
Bessie’s is on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Are you more of a cookie, granola or pumpkin bread fan?!
