I’m no stranger to sensitive teeth. It started a few years ago right around the time I had our first son. I had had a root canal and afterward the surrounding teeth became sensitive to cold beverages. Milk shakes or a glass of ice water were very difficult to drink. When I was asked by Crest to film a promotional video for tooth sensitivity I knew I was a good candidate. I wasn’t quite sure what kind of product it was going to be or if it was going to work but I was game to try it.
The Product?
When I arrived at Walmart and saw it was for Crest Sensi-Stop Strips (my wife didn’t tell me beforehand) I thought there was no way these were going to work. How could a little strip stop the shooting pain I have from my teeth to the back of my eyeball? Bring it! The Crest Sensi-Stop Strips are about an inch long with gel on the back that you put over the affected tooth (or teeth) and gum line. It does not have any flavor and honestly I forgot I had it on. I was able to talk normally and go about my business.
The Results?
After the 10 minutes (it may have been longer and that’s okay) I took off the strip and was prepared to tell them that it hadn’t worked. There was no numbness like you’d feel going to the dentist when you’re about to get a filling or like the numbing medication you can take at home. I was for sure going to feel pain. They gave a glass of ice water to drink. It was like magic. No pain. No squinty face because it hurt pain! Oh and it’s been a week and there’s still no pain.
How’d They Do That?
Here’s a health lesson 101…or maybe is something like 401 since I’ve never heard of dentinal tubules! Crest Sensi-Stop Strips use the same ingredient as some professional treatments to seal dentinal tubules. Dentinal tubules are small passage ways that lead directly to nerve endings, and they can become exposed due to factors such as gum recession.
How Do I Get MORE Of These?
Don’t fret. These strips of awesomeness will be available at a local retailer near you in September. They’ll come in package sizes of 6, 10 and 12 strips and will cost $19.99-$34.99.
