Taste The Caribbean With Tortuga Rum Cakes – Holiday Gift Guide 2013

Are you looking for the best present for someone who likes rum, cake and coffee? You found the right place. Tortuga has a variety of rum soaked foods that will leave you craving more. They even have the perfect sized cakes that are not too small or too big, they’re just the right size. You can also find coffee and fudge in their shop. Although the coffee isn’t rum soaked you can bet the other things they sell are!

Founded as the Tortuga Rum Company in the Cayman Islands in 1984, today Tortuga International spans the Caribbean with bakeries and operations in Grand Cayman, Barbados, Jamaica and the Bahamas, and our sales and distribution center in Miami, Florida.

I’ve heard of rum cakes and I’ve even tasted them here locally before but I have never had one that tasted as delicious as these! The pictures don’t do them justice at all. You will just have to go get some for yourself to see. Careful, you will want to stock your shelves with these!

Original Golden with Walnuts (top): If you have never had a rum cake, you’re missing out. Just looking at the cake is making me want a few more. The shine on the top of the cake is how moist these are with rum. Once you cut a piece and sink your teeth in plan on craving more. These are soaked with the finest tasting rum. The minute you bite it the rum is nearly overpowering but not too much where you can’t taste the cake. It’s a sweet and fluffy cake so it melts in your mouth.

Key Lime: Just as fluffy and moist as the one with walnuts except this one doesn’t have walnuts. Almost instantly you can taste the lime however it’s not overwhelming. Like the other one there is a very strong rum taste. Very tasty though! The flavors blend together to make you drool over the last drop.

Let’s not forget the yummy Rum Fudge that was included in my reviewer package. I have never had anything soaked in so much rum. I like the taste though, it’s really good. The fudge however had a little too much rum. Aside from the rum cakes which had a lot of the alcoholic flavor, the fudge was above and beyond the taste. My husband enjoyed it and I even shared it with some friends of mine and they liked it. I am not huge on fudge which may be the reason why these weren’t a favorite of mine.

Last but not least is the delicious bag of Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee. Because it comes in whole beans I had to grind it up in my small coffee grinder. The fresh smell off coffee freshly ground is the best scent to have in your kitchen any time of the day. This one wasn’t too strong. Filled with flavor, same as the taste. I put half and half in it plus some sugar and it was a mildly strong coffee but tasty. My husband drinks more coffee than me so he had half the bag within a few days. I enjoyed a few cups and it’s very tasty. A high quality made product.
