It’s October and the kids have been back to school for a little over a month. They started the week after Labor Day here. It seemed everyone had already been in school forever by the time they started. My daughter was starting Preschool and my son is in Pre K. I can’t even fathom that I will have a Kindergartener next year. It really does go by all too fast!
Since my son is in Pre K he gets to stay for lunch twice a week. Wow. He LOVES staying and chatting with his friends. I am so happy my kids genuinely enjoy school. They are sponges and enjoy talking about their days when I ask. Since my son can pack his lunch twice a week, it’s important to me that he eats and drinks a healthy diet even at school. He very much enjoys leftovers and turkey sandwiches as opposed to peanut butter. I also pack him Horizon Organic Milk boxes for his drink and he very much looks forward to having a chocolate or regular milk with his lunch. Yum!
This back to school season, nationally recognized nutritionist Elizabeth Somer and Horizon Organic, a leading organic dairy brand, partnered to create a back-to-school resource called “5 Lunch Needs and 50 Ways to Please” that helps parents and kids make smart, nutritious lunch box choices. The easy-to-use tool, which you can find attached, outlines the five main food groups and 10 kid-approved lunch box ideas under each category. The idea is for kids and parents to use the tool together each week to pick and pack balanced lunches.
